Our 2012 Banjo Retreat is going to be held Thursday August 9 through Sunday August 12 at Janes Island State Park.
Janes Island is a special place. People who frequent the park often comment that Janes is one of the East Coast’s best-kept secrets. The main body of the park is a quiet patch of woods along Daugherty Creek Canal. Across the canal, Jane’s Island is a huge expanse of salt marsh brimming with wildlife. Sitting on the banks of the canals you can watch blue herons fishing casually while ospreys soar overhead. I think the best park of the place is the sunsets. Of all the places I have been, nothing quite compares to watching the sun set over the Chesapeake Bay.
The retreat is held at the Daugherty Creek Conference Center. It’s a huge old house right on the canal. It is a big comfortable place and just about everybody who spends any time there falls in love with it. The conference center has big a second-story balcony with amazing views of the island. There is also a dock that is perfect for slow relaxed practice in the warm Maryland sunshine.
I don’t see much point in carrying on about the workshops. If you have watched any of our workshops or read any of my books you should have a good idea of what to expect. My father and I don’t run things like those banjo camps where some dipstick puts on a show and refuses to answer questions. We are here to share our craft with you. We want to you head for home feeling empowered to make music!
When you come to Crisfield be ready to jam, sing, learn, share, eat too much, sleep too little and take in the scenery of one of the prettiest places on earth.
There are still a couple of bunks left. Don’t miss out! Call Dear Old Dad at (410) 968-3873
